Rockerbox 2011

Well, I wasn't going to miss two years in a row, now was I...

A few months ago, I formulated a plan. Well, more like sketches of a plan that I let rattle around this empty head of mine for a while. The plan was simple, or at least seemed simple in my head when it first appeared. I was going to go to Rockerbox, back home in Milwaukee, that was a given. My plan however, included a few things. I would fly to Milwaukee with a one way ticket. Then, once there, I would pick up the sv650 that I would have already found, had a friend check out and agreed to buy. Then I would have a really fun night, drink a ton and wake up feeling great. The next morning meet up with my friends and ride to Rockerbox. See some rad bikes, have a great day, drink a ton and wake up feeling great. The next day, I would check the bike over, see my family, relax and rest up for the long ride from Milwaukee to Austin.

I dont know how, but almost all of that actually happened. Here's my proof.

East Side Classic 2011

It was actually really great and I'm excited to see how it will grow in 2012....

I really can't imagine what I would have done without the help of all my friends and sponsors of this years event. This being the first real push to increase the scale of the event, at most times I felt like I was in way over my head. We had to claw our way through the planning of the event and got bailed out of some pretty awful situations by some amazing people, Thankfully, the event went off without a hitch and everyone who came, really seemed to have a great time, even if it was hotter'n a burnt boot. All and all, it turned out better than I ever thought possible. I hope to see you all there next year...seriously. Come.

Let's Ride Motorcycles!

A friend sent me this link the other day and I've watched it about 50 times already. Trust me, well worth the 2 minutes.

No doubt about it...

we love our bikes here in Austin.

We love them so much in fact, that we all got together and immortalized our bikes with a photo shoot. Photos were taken by our incredibly talented friend Jimmy, who himself rides his cb175 daily. This sort of thing reinforces to me that your friends are paramount. Number one. Plus, if those friends happen to like motorcycles as much as you....absolutely perfect.

Motorcycle Movie Night

The vintage motorcycle scene in Austin has a long way to go, but there are a few sure signs that it's getting a lot closer. It's only a matter of time, with a few of us trying to get people out and involved things are already looking better. One such way we're trying to get people involved is the East Side Classic, a fundraising motorcycle rally which I've posted about already. By the way, the event is on the 19th of this month in east Austin so if you're from anywhere near Austin, come down! You can find out more, here...www.eastsideclassicaustin.com

Another way is the motorcycle movie night that my friends Russ and John put together. These movie nights take place at various outdoor locations around the city and play only the coolest and/or cheesiest moto related movies we can get our hands on. The last one showed a documentary about Evel Knievel, which is unquestionably cool.

Rockabilly Hotrod/Motorcycle Party

The great thing about vintage bikes, is that they seem to fit together well with other cool scenes perfectly. For instance, Gully Cat Tattoo(way down south on first street), had a get together over the weekend that brought out a bunch of vintage bikes and hot rods. To lure them in, Gully Cat supplied a bit of brisket and a live rockabilly band for atmosphere. So to review, vintage bikes, hotrods, tattoos, rockabilly and brisket. Turnout was great considering the weather was sketchy at best and the tattoo convention was going on downtown. The folks at Gully Cat run a nice little shop here in south Austin and I've only seen high quality work come out of the shop. If I wasn't so broke from spending all my money on bike stuff, I'd be there finishing off this left arm. Later, the guys from Deathtrap stopped by and joined the bike conversation till the sun went down. Deathtrap is a shop on south Lamar, employed by only the most sinister and totally cool bike deviants in the city. All, kidding aside though, these guys have a ton of experience and really know there stuff. Check them out if you've got a British or early American bike that needs a talking to.
